Healthy Fried Rice

There are many fried rice recipes and this is my healthy fried rice recipe.

It may not be a traditional way of making fried rice, but it is one that my twins have loved since they were babies.

Fried rice is also a great addition to a lunchboxes either cold or warm in a thermos.

Prep 15 min // Cook 15 min


2 cups day old cooked rice (I use brown rice but you can use long grain, jasmine or basmati)

3 rashes bacon diced

½ red capsicum diced

3 spring onions diced

½ cup corn kernels

1 carrot diced into small pieces

½ cup peas

2 eggs lightly beaten

2 tbs minced garlic

1 tbs dried mixed herbs

2 tbs light soy sauce

2 tbs kepis manis (or sweet soy sauce)

Dash Worcestershire sauce


  1. Heat 1 tbs olive oil in wok (or pan) and sauté spring onion, bacon and garlic for 2 min and remove from the pan. Add carrot, corn, peas, capsicum to pan and cook for a further 5 min.

  2. In the same pan add the eggs and cook until a soft omelette has formed and break it apart in small pieces and remove from pan.

  3. Heat ½ tbs oil in pan and add day old rice and mix for 1 minute.

  4. Add reserved egg and vegetables to pan and mix well.

  5. Add in the mixed herbs and sauces and stir through well and continue to stir until rice is hot.
