There is nothing more Australian than a meat pie and the filling in this recipe which is slow cooked for an hour is amazing and sure to be a favourite in your house!
Prep 10 min // Cook 1hr 20 min (including oven time)
500g beef mince
1 cup tomato sauce
1 onion diced
1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
2 tbs bbq sauce
1 cup liquid beef stock
1 tsp vegemite
1/3 cup red wine
2 tbs tomato paste
Handful diced continental parsley
4 cloves garlic crushed
Salt and pepper to taste
1 sheet shortcrust pastry
1 sheet of puff pastry
Heat oil in pan and sauté onion and garlic for 2 min.
Add beef and cooked until bowned.
Add red wine and reduce to half.
Add all remaining ingredients bring to the boil and then simmer gently for 1 hour.
Season with salt and pepper.
Let mixture cool before assembling pie using shortcrust pastry on bottom and puff pastry on top and bake at 180 degrees for approximately 20min or use a pie maker.
